Katie was in a car accident in March of 2013. She sustained a spinal cord injury at chest level. She has had to overcome several obstacles before being able to get back to work. She still has had to continue to have daily struggles but keeps a positive attitude as she knows that things could always be worse. Katie was crowned Ms. Wheelchair Iowa 2015. Her advocacy was for business accessibility. She is wanting to make a difference in making it easier to access places, making life a little better. She continues to advocate for people. She is a board member of the Iowa Chapter- United Spinal Association. The organization helps connect individuals impacted by spinal cord injuries/diseases including family, caregivers, and professionals. Our members empower each other to engage in a healthy and active lifestyle.
